      <video:title><![CDATA[South Africa’s economic growth doubled in 2025]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[South Africa's economy continues to show modest but steady progress. The latest data from Statistics South Africa shows that the economy expanded by 0.4 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025, marking the fifth consecutive quarter of growth. That performance helped lift annual GDP growth to 1.1 per cent for 2025, the strongest expansion since 2022.
The growth story, however, remains uneven. Sectors like finance, trade and personal services helped drive the expansion, while manufacturing, mining and electricity production continued to drag on overall output. On the demand side, the economy was supported by household spending, investment and government consumption, although exports declined.
To unpack what this means for the trajectory of the South African economy and whether this momentum can be sustained, CNBC Africa is joined by Lisette IJssel de Schepper, Chief Economist at the Bureau for Economic Research, and Nicky Weimar, Chief Economist at Nedbank.
